Cruising the AI Highway: Standardized MCP Deployment and Governance With Backstage - Rob Heckel & Tyler Rothenberg, Toyota Connected
AI has become central to cloud native operations and development, so managing AI infrastructure at scale is essential. Toyota Connected developed a software scaffolder enabling teams to self serve standardized Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers that allow AI to interact with tools and resources. MCPs are key to delivering and expanding existing AI backed tooling across the organization. This session focuses on the self service template that deploys MCP servers and a Backstage plugin that displays these servers in the Backstage Catalog, including their tools, and monitors approval statuses, providing centralized governance and visibility. Attendees will learn how this approach standardizes AI infrastructure deployment, enhances collaboration, and ensures compliance. This case study offers practical insights into operationalizing AI workflows with CNCF tools and Backstage, benefiting organizations integrating AI into their cloud native ecosystems.
