Service Unites 2018: Adam Rippon

Before he even stepped onto the ice at the 2018 Winter Olympics, American figure skater Adam Rippon made history as the first openly gay U.S. male athlete to qualify for the Winter Games. The Scranton, Pennsylvania, native continued to make headlines as he competed in the prestigious competition, ultimately earning the bronze medal as part of the figure skating team event.

Service Unites, powered by Points of Light, is the largest service-related convening of nonprofit, government, business and civic leaders, bringing together thousands each year from around the globe to collaborate and ensure the volunteer sector continues to grow and innovate in this rapidly changing world. In 2018, attendees were challenged to be a spark that ignites civic culture — a culture in which living a civic life is the norm, not the exception; a culture in which every person is inspired, equipped and mobilized to be a citizen in the fullest sense, to take action that changes the world.
