Sonata in F-sharp Major, Op. 78 - Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1826)
This sonata, written in 1809 and dedicated to his student Thérèse von Brunswick, is short and lovely. I love the way the first movement seems to change character on a dime, as if the composer has caught sight of someone outside his window and gotten excited before coming back to his work. In the second movement, the virtuosity of young Beethoven's early sonatas returns, but with quick harmonic changes and a flashy coda to bring the romp to a close. I hope you enjoy!
