The 2020 SD Governor's Buffalo Roundup
Staff and volunteers at Custer State Park roundup the Park's large buffalo herd every September. It needs to be done so that the animals can be tested and immunized. A public auction of a few buffalo helps keep the herd at a manageable size. Left alone, the herd would overgraze the park's available habitat.
The event generally draws between 15 and 20-thousand spectators.
