Verbs of Being (examples and definition) - English grammar lesson
There are 2 types of verbs in English:
1) Verbs of action
2) Verbs of being
In this video, I compare the 2 types of verb and then explain verbs of being in detail.
Verbs of being (or verbs of state of being) are also often called linking verbs because they link the subject complement to the subject.
Verbs of being do not describe an action. They give the reader more information about the subject (where it is, what it is and when it is somewhere)
This video answers the following common questions:
What are verbs of being?
What are linking verbs?
What are examples of verbs of being?
When do we use verbs of being?
In addition to answering the above questions, I also explain why using too many verbs of state of being in writing is bad and I show you how to make your English writing more interesting by using verbs of action to describe a scene.
This lesson was presented by Andrew, a qualified native British English teacher with over 15 years experience of teaching English.
