MACV-SOG's Ghost — The Soldier North Vietnam Feared Most | Military History
In 1967, the North Vietnamese government put a $10,000 bounty on the head
of a single American soldier. This is real military history.
His name was Jerry "Mad Dog" Shriver, the most feared operator in MACV-SOG history. A Green Beret who spent three years running classified special forces missions deep inside Laos and Cambodia during the Vietnam War.
Radio Hanoi named him by name. The NVA feared him enough to broadcast his description across Southeast Asia and offer a bounty that no other individual soldier in Vietnam War history received.
On April 24th, 1969, Shriver boarded a helicopter for a raid on the NVA's secret headquarters in Cambodia. He was last seen walking toward a tree line.
He was supposed to be dead. Then, for four hours after the extraction, his radio kept transmitting.
Four hours of contact. In a jungle full of NVA soldiers. Alone.
The official record does not fully account for those four hours. Nobody knows what happened. 55 years later, he is still listed as Missing in Action.
This is a war story you have to know and share.
