The Connection (2009)
The Connection was a revival of Jack Gelbers classic play, an homage to the New York Downtown Jazz Club and bebop music scene of the 1950s, with all of its good vibrations, and its addiction to junk in tow. The play opened on New Year's Eve 2009, in celebration of its 50th anniversary. The music by The Rene McLean Quartet made an unforgettable redemptive sound that lifts us from the gloom of the addicts to the heights of ecstasy, drawing from his father Jackie McLean's compositions as well as his own. Judith Malina who also played the role of Sister Salvation alongside the cast of The Living Theatres ensemble directed the play.
