Having created over 35 books, publishers report that Allende has sold over 65 million books. It has been said that her impact on Latin American and world literature cannot be overestimated. The Los Angeles Times has called her “a genius,” and she has received many international awards.
“The Japanese Lover” is her new best-selling novel, about which Publishers Weekly says, “Allende's magical and sweeping tale focuses on two survivors of separation and loss....Befitting the unapologetically romantic soul bared here – love is what endures.”
Quotes
“Nothing short of astonishing...Allende has indeed shown us the relationships between past and present, family and nation, city and country, spiritual and political values. She has done so with tremendous imagination, sensitivity, and compassion.”
-- San Francisco Chronicle
“If you change the way you tell your own story, you can change the color and create a life in technicolor.” -- Isabel Allende
