Hello, learners!
In this lesson, we will master what an object complement is in English.
What is an object complement?
Object complement
An object complement is a word or a group of words that complements or modifies the direct object of a verb. It comes next to the direct object and either renames it or describes it. When it renames the object, it works as a noun, and when it describes the object, it works as an adjective.
Examples:-
• The company is making Jon the senior manager.
• The company is making Jon happy.
• They call me stupid.
me = direct object
stupid = object complement
me = stupid
(describing the object using an adjective)
• They call me a smart boy.

a smart boy = object complement
me = a smart boy
(renaming the object using a noun phrase)
• I don't consider him a deserving candidate for this job.
him = direct object
a deserving candidate = object complement
him = a deserving candidate
(renaming the object using a noun phrase)
• I don't consider him smart for this job.
