Jehnny Beth welcomes Black Country New Road – the proud representatives of uninhibited English youth – in ARTE’s musical rendezvous. Get set to embark on a journey into their hard-hitting, almost erotic universe.

The very name conjures up images of a film noir, set in the depths of the English countryside. Black Country New Road is a group of seven British post-rock musicians whose complex melodies are reminiscent of a mysterious film score.

The band was spotted in 2019 by Dan Carey, who signed them to his Speedy Wunderground label. Following a low-key beginning, they intend to erupt into the indie rock scene in 2020. Black Country New Road first came to the public’s attention with their first single: “Athen’s France”, a jewel of a track with its bewitching, progressive arrangements. Brass, percussion and violins merge in graceful intensity, providing the perfect showcase for Isaac Wood’s deep yet edgy tones.

For Echoes with Jehnny Beth, the Brits take to the stage of the Yoyo Club and make the Palais de Tokyo buzz to the sound of tracks from their sensual, exhilarating and deliciously chaotic debut album For The First Time.

Ce nom pourrait faire penser à un film noir, qui se déroulerait au fin fond de la campagne anglaise. Black Country New Road est un groupe de sept British au style post-rock, dont les mélodies complexes rappellent une B.O. mystérieuse. Repéré en 2019 par Dan Carey, qui le signe sur son label Speedy Wunderground, le groupe, discret à ses débuts, compte bien déferler sur la scène rock indé en 2020. On a remarqué Black Country New Road grâce à un premier single : "Athen’s France", bijou aux arrangements envoûtants et progressifs. Cuivres, percussions et violons y évoluent avec grâce et véhémence, laissant se délier le timbre grave et tranchant d’Isaac Wood. Pour Echoes with Jehnny Beth, sur la scène du Yoyo Club au Palais de Tokyo les Britanniques font retentir les titres leur premier album For The First Time, sensuel, grisant et délicieusement chaotique.

Die komplexen Melodien des britischen Septetts kommen eher wie der Soundtrack zu einem Mystery-Streifen daher. Die Band wurde 2019 von Dan Carey entdeckt und stehenden Fußes für das Label Speedy Wunderground verpflichtet. Nach einem eher verhaltenen Auftakt wollen sie 2020 in der Indie-Rock-Szene richtig durchstarten. Die Redaktion wurde durch die Debütsingle „Athen’s France“ auf Black Country, New Road aufmerksam – ein echtes Soundjuwel mit einschmeichelnd-progressiven Arrangements. Blechbläser, Percussion und Streicher geben sich darauf ein ebenso anmutiges wie powergeladenes Stelldichein und bringen dabei die tiefe, eindringliche Stimme von Isaac Wood wunderbar zur Geltung.

Für Echoes with Jehnny Beth haben sich Black Country, New Road im Pariser Yoyo Club eingefunden und stellen dort die Tracks ihres ersten Albums „For The First Time“ vor – sinnlich, prickelnd und köstlich chaotisch.
