2021 Coastal Prairies Lone Star Land Steward
Over 6 million acres of grassland once blanketed the Texas coast, but today less than 1% remains. The Dunn O'Connor River Ranch in Goliad County is one of the last tracts of coastal prairie left in Texas. Passed down through the family since 1836, the ranch balances cattle production with preservation of wildlife habitat. The ranch serves as a release site for the highly endangered Attwatter's Prairie Chicken and works with state and federal partners on habitat conservation.
