Katarina Talks about life as an athlete from East Germany, what the Olympics mean to her, and the "Katarina Witt Foundation"

Double Olympic champion figure skater Katarina Witt has urged
the young athletes of tomorrow to embrace the life lessons learned
from their coaches. “It really doesn’t matter if you win or lose – what you take from sport means so much to your life and your future.Sport changed my life and opened up so many opportunities.”

After her competitive career ended the German star established
the Katarina Witt Foundation in 2005 to help disabled children
with their mobility. And as a result of a proposal from last year’s
Doha GOALS Forum, Witt’s Foundation will become involved with
the funding of an initiative to provide prosthetics to disadvantaged
young athletes. “Even now, we are still athletes in our hearts and wecarry on in our lives with the same discipline and dedication that we had and used as sports people,” she explained.
