🌏 Capter et mesurer le méthane dans le Léman
Accompagné d’une équipe de l’UNIL de l’unité Carrtel - INRAE de Thonon et de l’IGE Grenoble, le Professeur Jérôme Chappellaz étudie la présence du méthane dans le lac Léman et sa concentration à différentes profondeurs. Avec leur instrument de mesure, les chercheur·e·s peuvent cartographier la présence de ce gaz à effet de serre dans le lac, et notamment dans le canyon creusé par le Rhône à son embouchure. Le méthane est le 2e gaz à effet de serre d’origine humaine en terme d’importance; étudier son cycle et sa présence dans les milieux naturels est donc primordial.

With their measuring instrument, the researchers can map the presence of this greenhouse gas in the lake, especially in the canyon carved by the Rhône River at its mouth. Methane is the second most important human-caused greenhouse gas; therefore, studying its cycle and its presence in natural environments is essential.
