Das wars! Am 08. November 2020 um 15:39 Uhr hob das letzte Passagierflugzeug von Tegel ab. Ein Sonderflug von Air France, da diese vor 60 Jahren auch als erste Fluggesellschaft am 6. Januar 1960 in Tegel landete. Der letzte Linienflug war bereits am Abend des 7. Novembers 2020 durch eine Lufthansa A350 durchgeführt worden, die um 22:04 Uhr vom Berliner Boden abhob. Der Flughafen verbleibt noch bis Anfang Mai 2021 in einem Bereitschaftszustand um bei eventuellen Problemen des neuen Flughafens BER reaktiviert werden zu können.
Tegel fertigte über 24 Millionen Fluggäste im Jahr 2019 ab und damit mehr als das doppelte seiner eigentlichen Kapazität. Der Flughafen war bei vielen Berlinern vor allem wegen der so kurzen Wege beliebt, so brauchte man im besten Fall nur 28 Meter vom Taxi zum Flugzeug. Am 7. November, dem letzten Tag an dem die Öffentlichkeit Zutritt zum Terminal hatte, kamen zehntausende Besucher um sich von Tegel zu verabschieden.
Der letzte Tag mit regulärem Flugbetrieb war begleitet von vielen Abschiedszeremonien wie Ehrenrunden um das Terminal, Wasserfontänen und Lichtinstallationen.

On November 8, 2020 at 14:39 UTC the last airliner took off from Berlin Tegel Airport. A special flight operated by Air France, as Air France was the first airline to ever land at Berlin Tegel airport on January 2, 1960. The last scheduled departure already took place on November 7 and was performed by a Lufthansa Airbus A350. The airport will remain standby until May 2021 for a possible reactivation if problems occur at the new airport BER.

Tegel dispatched over 24 million passengers in 2019 - more than double of it's 11.5 million official capacity. Many Berliners loved the short distances compared to other international airports. Tegel had no centralised check in or security. Every gate had it's own check-in, passport control and security check. It took just 28 meteres from the taxi cab to the aircraft door.
November 7, 2020 was the last day where the airport was open to the public, thousands of Berliners and fans came to Tegel to farewell their beloved airport. The airport dismissed every last flight of an airline with a watersalute and a lap of honor around the terminal.
