Nationals senators resign over hate speech laws | ABC NEWS
Three Nationals senators have been forced to quit their frontbench positions after breaking shadow cabinet rules.
Senior Nationals Ross Cadell, Bridget McKenzie and Susan McDonald defied the Coalition's official position on hate speech reforms in a late-night vote on Tuesday.
In a statement, Opposition Leader Sussan Ley said she had accepted the resignations of the three senators from the shadow cabinet.
"Yesterday, in several conversations, I made it clear to [Nationals leader] David Littleproud that members of the shadow cabinet could not vote against the shadow cabinet position," she said.
ABC National Affairs Correspondent Jane Norman reports from Canberra.
