December is going to be the most exciting month for sky gazers. Here are all the top astronomical events in December 2020

December 6: Puppid-Velid meteor shower
The radiant of this shower lies in the constellation of Vela. The best time to watch this shower is about three hours after midnight.

December 8: Monocerotid meteor shower
Its radiant lies in the constellation of Monoceros. The best time to watch the Monocerotids is a couple of hours after midnight.

December 13: Lunar occultation of Venus
The Moon will pass in front of Venus, hiding it for some time. It will be visible from a small fraction of the world.

December 14: Total Solar Eclipse
The Total Solar Eclipse of 14 December 2020 will be visible over Argentina and Chile. It will be the last eclipse of 2020.

December 14: Geminid meteor shower
The best meteor shower of the year, the Geminids, will peak on December 14. You can watch the Geminid meteor shower when it produces its best displays a couple of hours after midnight. The radiant of the shower lies in the constellation of Gemini. They can produce up to 120 meteors per hour.

December 21: Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn
The most awaited astronomical event of 2020, the great conjunction will take place on December 21. Jupiter and Saturn will be just 0.1 degrees apart. The great conjunction occurs every 20 years on average. This is the closest conjunction in 800 years. Watch Jupiter and Saturn in the south-west sky soon after sunset.
