Portable Ham Radio in the Park | Relaxing POTA Activation

Today I headed out to Independence, Missouri, near the bridge off 291 toward Liberty, for another Parks on the Air activation and a little radio exploration.

I spent some time talking about the hobby, showing the equipment setup again, and explaining a little better why I enjoy doing this so much. POTA isn’t just about making contacts. It’s about slowing down, getting outside, enjoying some peace and quiet, and connecting with people in a way that still feels real.

Ham radio has given me a lot over the years, and I honestly think more people would enjoy it if they gave it a chance. You don’t need expensive gear or some giant tower in your backyard. Sometimes all you need is a simple radio, a wire antenna, and a park bench under the trees.

It turned into a really good day on the air.
