PS3 Hard Drive Repair and Data Recovery

When Jeff's child dropped the PlayStation 3 from 6-feet in the air, it stopped working Cannot start. The appropriate system storage was not found. Rather than risk permanent data loss by reseating the drive blindly, let's instead scan the drive for errors while at the same time making an image file to recover from in case it fails. Can we get the PlayStation 3 to boot?
