Six people try to show that for £500 you can buy something that will give lasting pleasure and may even turn out to be a good investment. Joan Collins goes for broke: she wants a work by an 18th-century French master, preferably with a strong, dominant woman as its subject. Her hunt across two capital cities, in dingy basements and to luxurious dealers, calls for persistence and cunning that would have made Alexis proud."
