What qualifies us to decide what the best donut is in New York? We love donuts and eat a lot of them. That's pretty much it.

A few additional thoughts and notes:

1. We compiled our list of 13 bakeries from lots of "Best Donuts in New York" lists that we found online. Bakeries that showed up on multiple lists made our list. All of these happened to be in Manhattan and Brooklyn. If you know of an amazing donut shop in Queens, the Bronx, or Staten Island, let us know and we'll check it out for our next video.

2. We only considered bakeries that are truly New York. So no national chains. This disqualifies Dunkin Donuts, Tim Hortons, and Krispy Kreme, all of which are great, but you can get them in a lot of places across the country/world, and we thought the donuts on our list should be worth coming to New York for. (And they are!)

3. If a specific specialty donut is mentioned in the reviews (like the jam-filled donuts at Orwashers, the Brooklyn Blackout or Creme Brûlée at Doughnut Plant, or the Brioche Donut at Mah-Ze-Dahr), we ate that. Otherwise, we got the glazed and/or whatever the person working at the shop said was the most popular or best donut.
