We Took Our Kids to Punta Cana … & Skipped the All-Inclusive! - Isla Saona

WE MOVED TO THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS!

We Took Our Kids to Punta Cana … & Skipped the All-Inclusive! The town we are actually “moving” to is about 4.5 hours away from Punta Cana, but we found the best flight deals from our home in Colorado to Punta Cana so that’s why we elected to fly there instead of a closer airport.

Since we were flying to Punta Cana anyways, we gave ourselves a weekend buffer to enjoy the area before embarking on a long road-trip to our new home on the Northern Coast of the island.

Punta Cana is an area that is famous for luxury vacations and all-inclusive resorts; however, we took our kids to Punta Cana and chose to stay at the Presidential Suites instead. This gave us the flexibility to participate in an off-site excursion that we were really excited about!

Unfortunately, we would NOT recommend staying at the Presidential Suites because we felt that it was poorly-maintained. Also, we found it difficult to skip the all-inclusive, as family travelers, because there were very few dining options outside of the resort setting.

With that being said, we loved the beach in front of our hotel (seaweed and all), and we really did enjoy our time in Punta Cana.

We took a day trip to Saona Island on our second day, and the island was just gorgeous! However, we didn’t care for the tour company we used. We bought the package from a salesman on the beach and felt misled about the excursion, spending more time in transit than on the actual island that day. Regardless, Saona Island was stunning and is home to Eastern National Park. While we don’t recommend you try a big catamaran tour, we do recommend you find a way to see Saona Island with a smaller group or private boat!
