Baby Gray Whale loves scratches, headbutts tourist

The Gray Whales of San Ignacio Lagoon, Baja California Sur, are remarkably friendly and unafraid of approaching boats. This mother even took a nap while we played with her calf!

This lagoon is where they raise their newborns until they are strong enough to make the migration to their Alaskan feeding waters.

Edit: For anyone who's curious, the splashing was recommended by our guides. It's how you get their attention and interact with them when you can't reach them. The calves in particular appear to find it entertaining.
