How we move (alien) species around the world | Marten Winter | TEDxHHL

We are all surrounded by invasive ("alien") species: animals, plants, fungi and micro-organisms that have been taken out of their natural environment and introduced to new places by humans, says scientist Marten Winter. The problem? Often these, introduced species can dominate native species and endanger natural habitats. The thing is, we sometimes might not even realize we're transporting an "alien" species from one place to the next.

Dr. Marten Winter is a trained macroecologist, music nerd and drummer. In his professional life, he leads the Leipzig based sDiv, the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research Halle-Jena-Leipzig.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
