Changing lenses of mind that orient Black women | Dr Solomon Guramatunhu | TEDxBorrowdale

Any task or goal will have obstacles to overcome and sometimes even setbacks. By approaching these tasks with a growth mindset, we are better able to persevere in the face of failures and setbacks. Thoughts are the starting point for everything that we do.

The speaker discusses the issue of skin lightening cream, stating that it was a choice made by the black community, not a business. They argue that people are trying to emulate Caucasians, with hair and skin that are biologically adapted to their environment. They compare this to sheep, who have wool that is a biological adaptation to their environment. The speaker believes that the black community is trying to change this mindset by promoting diversity in hair, skin, and appearance. They argue that black women can be bold, beautiful, and have a variety of hairstyles, from short to long, straight, plaited, and even have dreadlocks. The speaker also acknowledges that most black women are natural, with 99.9% of them having natural hair. The speaker believes that the academy should change this mindset and promote diversity in the black community.
