luru in Andhra Pradesh's West Godavari district continues to remain in the national spotlight ever since a mysterious disease in the city led to over 600 residents in need of hospital care. Experts investigating the outbreak have found the presence of organochlorine and organophosphorus in the blood and serum samples of those affected by this mystery disease.

On Friday, Andhra Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy held another round of review meetings to discuss the developing situation in Eluru. He also held a video conference with authorities concerned. The CM asked for strict restrictions to curb the stray usage of pesticides and the use of banned pesticides in the state.

"Only pesticides and fertilizers approved by RBKs should be delivered to farmers and awareness should be created among farmers on their usage," CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said. He also directed officials to conduct tests on pesticides in use across the state, adding that this testing must be done for at least the next month.
Doctors and experts from AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences), NIN (ICMR - National Institute of Nutrition), IICT (Indian Institute of Chemical Technology), CCMB (Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology), NCDC (National Centre for Disease Control) and NIV (National Institute of Virology) are probing the cause of the mysterious disease which has claimed one life and affected over 600, including women and children.

However, neither the experts from AIIMS Delhi nor Hyderabad-based IICT nor the Andhra Pradesh Municipal Department found any evidence of drinking water contamination in Eluru to date. In their reports, officials said that samples are also being taken from local animals and sent to Bhopal for testing.
