My workbench has been getting too old. The workbench shaked too much and I felt less secure. The legs were much weaker. After moving to a new workshop, I decided to create a new one. The wood used mainly were 2x4 lumbers, and the table top was reused from the previous workbench by flipping over. After all work was done, the old legs were burned. Of course, I could use it again, but I was sorry for the legs that suffered so much heavy weights. I wanted to give my old legs eternal rest. There is no reason to recycle everything, I think. It was a kind of good-bye ceremony.
If you look closely at this video, I used only Makita tools to build this workbench. I didn't even use a table saw. In the season I was making this workbench, I got a chance from Makita Korea to use some electronic tools for free for months. Since the relationship between Japan and Korea suddenly got worse, I rarely exposed Makita tools to the screen. The machines themselves were very good. Delicate and smooth, I remember. I am sure that the Makita brand will survive long. I hope Korea-Japan relationship will be better, soon. Need Reflection, reconciliation and forgiveness.
내 작업대가 많이 늙어버렸습니다. 너무 많이 흔들렸고 안정감이 떨어졌습니다. 다리들이 많이 약해졌습니다. 새 작업실로 이사한 이후에 새 작업대를 만들어야겠다고 결심했습니다. 목재들은 주로 2X4 구조목을 사용했고, 상판은 이전 작업대에서 사용했던 자작나무 합판을 뒤집어서 사용했습니다. 모든 작업이 끝난 이후에 이전 작업대 다리들은 모두 태웠습니다. 물론 다시 활용할 수도 있겠지만, 그동안 너무 무거운 힘들을 버티면서 고생해 준 다리들에게 미안한 마음이 들었습니다. 다리들을 쉬게 해 주고 싶었습니다. 모든 걸 재활용해야 할 이유는 없다,고 저는 생각합니다. 그건 일종의 장례식이었습니다.
이 동영상을 자세히 보면 알겠지만, 저는 이 작업대를 만드는 데 마키다 기계들만 사용했습니다. 테이블 톱도 사용하지 않았습니다. 저걸 만들던 당시에 나는 마키다 코리아로부터 몇 달 동안 몇 개의 전동공구들을 무상으로 사용할 수 있는 기회를 얻었습니다. 한국과 일본의 관계가 갑자기 나빠진 이후로 저는 마키다 기계들을 거의 화면에 노출시키지 않았습니다. 기계들 자체는 좋다고 생각합니다. 섬세하고 부드러웠습니다. 마키다라는 브랜드가 아주 오래 살아남으리라는 것도 확신합니다. 한일관계가 조만간 좀 더 좋아지기를 바랍니다. 반성, 화해, 용서가 필요합니다.
