A little extra care can go a long way in keeping yourself healthy. Here is some advice on the right diet to follow:
Banana: Delicious, inexpensive & convenient to eat, bananas are a must! They’re brimming with goodness in the form of potassium, magnesium, vitamin C & anti-oxidants. They help in digestion, keep your heart in good shape and aid weight loss as they’re low in calories & high in fiber! Their vitamin B9 & tryptophan content fights depression. Have one every day with breakfast!
Papaya: The papain enzyme in papaya makes proteins easier to digest and the fruit is known to cure constipation and other symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). High in vitamin C & lycopene, papaya helps prevent heart disease. Its antioxidants enhance the protective effects of the good HDL cholesterol. Besides, the carotenoids found in papaya help reduce body inflammation. Papaya makes an excellent mid-morning snack!
Almonds: Their high magnesium content helps control blood sugar and improve insulin function. And, of course, almonds are full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, helping better heart health and lower risk of cancer & Alzheimer’s disease. Just eat a handful in the mornings, or as an in-between-meal snack!
Sprouts: Be it the usual sabut moong dal, or soybean, kidney beans and even quinoa & oats, sprouts can easily be made at home and pack quite a power punch. With iron, copper, manganese & potassium, all of which help boost the production of red blood cells in the body, sprouts improve blood flow. They are low in calories and full of fiber which promotes a feeling satiety. They also limit the release of ghrelin – an important hunger hormone. Have them for breakfast or with lunch.
Curd: Healthy bacteria in curd helps improve digestion & maintain good gut health. While the heat of summer tends to tire you quicker, curd helps cool down your body & boost your energy. But don’t miss out on its goodness in winter, for it’s equally beneficial – just have a bowlful at room temperature with every meal.
