America has college sports,
unlike most other countries.
It fills up giant stadiums,
and gets high TV ratings.
Playing sports in college
takes up a lot of free time
400,000 students play
and don’t get paid a dime.
This would not be a big deal,
except the NCAA says
athletes can’t have jobs
making more than Two Grand a year.
Football & Basketball coaches
make millions of dollars.
Alabama’s Nick Saban
makes 7 million fucking dollars.
Plus there’s TV revenue,
Over 17 Billion
That’s not even all of it.
That’s just to show The Playoffs.
They say that college athletes
Get paid in free education.
That’s cool until they get hurt
and lose their scholarships.
Colleges say they can’t afford
to pay all of their athletes.
Last year 30 schools made more
than 80 million off sports each.
Athletic programs are run
Like a non-profit,
they have to spend what they make
To avoid paying taxes.
The University of Texas made
165 million in a year,
They spent almost all of it,
and players got no paychecks.
TV revenue, tickets, jerseys,
and officially licensed apparel.
All free ads for colleges
Sold off the work of free labor!
