2009 VW Tiguan Highline vs. 2010 Audi Q5 Premium Plus or why can't I play my music in this $60k SUV?

In this video I do a quick comparison of the Gen 1 VW Tiguan and Gen 1 Audi Q5. The Tiguan is a 2009 Highline with 2.0T engine and 4motion Haldex controlled AWD, while the Q5 is a 2010 Premium Plus with a 3.2 V6 motor and quattro permanent AWD and with the MMI navigation package.

Some highlights from the video:
1. If you're looking for a Tiguan, definitely buy the Highline trim level for the leather seats, HID headlights, 4motion system, navigation and better sound system
2. Common issues with the Tiguan include blown engines due to timing chain failures, leaking and failing main crank seals and leaking panoramic sunroof drains
3. The Audi 3.2 V6 motor is great and is probably the better option than the 2.0T but it is very thirsty at 16L/100km city.
4. The Audi MMI navigation package, which cost over $3000 new comes with a nice to have park assist system, a colored cluster display and a terrible center console controller for the MMI
5. The Audi HVAC controls are difficult, complicated and unsafe to use while driving.
6. The Tiguan will be cheaper to own and maintain due to its simpler suspension and the fact that it shares a lot of parts with other VW vehicles such as the Golf, Jetta and Passat

All things compared, the Q5 is a much nicer vehicle to own. It is a bit more expensive but prices are currently comparable on the used vehicle market so you can get a lot of luxury for not much more money. Both vehicles suffer from engine issues related to timing chains so always look for a vehicle with good maintenance history.
