China-US tensions: United States has blocked the visas of more than 1,000 Chinese students and researchers. According to the Trump Administration, these Chinese students and researchers have ties with the Peopl's Liberation Army (PLA). US government has also accused some of these students and researchers of espionage. Decision to revoke visas of Chinese students is based on a proclamation issued by President Donald Trump on 29 May, 2020. In this proclamation, Trump said that certain graduate level and above Chinese nationals associated with entities in China that implement or support China’s Military-Civil Fusion (MCF) strategy, are exploiting American F or J visas to enter the United States. Blocking these people from entering United States is an attempt to prevent them from stealing and otherwise appropriating sensitive research, claimed Trump administration. Hostilities between United States and China is on the rise. Relations between the two rival countries have plummeted in the recent months, especially after the spread of COVID-19.
