The judgment of Babylon was predicted in the book of Jeremiah. The fall of Babylon occurred after the seventy years of Judah’s captivity. God judges Babylon and turns it into a desolate place. In addition, the fall of Babylon was also predicted in Daniel 2. Recall the metal man statue in King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream. Babylon was the head of gold. However, Daniel prophesied that after Babylon, another kingdom, inferior to it, would arise. That kingdom would be the Medo-Persian Empire. Remember that Daniel gave the interpretation of this dream to the king when he was a youth. In Daniel 5, he is now about 80 years old and will personally witness the transition of kingdoms from Babylon to Medo-Persia.
