US and UK troops to withdraw citizens from Afghanistan as Taliban threaten capital - BBC News
The United States and the UK are sending thousands of troops to Afghanistan to help their civilians leave, as Taliban fighters continue their rapid advance across the country.
Afghanistan’s third largest city Herat has fallen to the Islamist fighters. Kandahar is on the brink of defeat. Lashkagar - the capital of Helmand province and the former base for UK operations has been overrun. And Ghazni, a strategically important city just 95 miles from the capital Kabul is also now in the hands of the Taliban.
