‘Extraordinarily rare’: White House to host state dinner for Anthony Albanese
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will be treated to a state dinner with US President Joe Biden at the White House which is “extraordinarily rare”, says former White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney.
“A very high honour – we only did two of those during my four years in the Trump White House,” Mr Mulvaney said.
Mr Mulvaney believes the dinner will “reinforce the very strong connection” between Australia and the United States at a critical time.
“I don’t think the dysfunction in Washington is going to impact one way or the other what Prime Minister Albanese takes away from these meetings.”
The AUKUS submarine deal and relations with China are to be a key part of the talks with President Biden.
