Roots of Nonlinear Equations – Open Methods
_________________________________________________________________________________________________
The open methods used in solving the root of an equation, require only a single starting value or two starting values that do not necessarily bracket the root. Because of this, there are cases where the method may diverge or move away from the true value of the root. However, when open methods converge, they usually do so much more quickly than bracketing methods.
