THE MXGP PROBLEM

MXGP currently represents the absolute pinnacle of technical and athletic excellence in dirt bike racing. We have incredible riders, machines that are masterpieces of engineering, and world-class racing. Yet, the World Championship seems trapped in a media bubble, struggling to connect with anyone outside its tight-knit circle of hardcore fans. In this video essay, we break down the real problem with MXGP: an overly closed-off paddock structure, a hyper-regulated approach to the media, and a systematic lack of deep storytelling.

In 2026, being fast on the track is simply no longer enough. Modern audiences demand behind-the-scenes access; they want to experience the fierce rivalries, the immense psychological pressure, and the raw reality inside the factory tents. Without access, you cannot build hype. Without hype, you fail to attract the massive global lifestyle and tech sponsors the sport desperately needs. And without new sponsors, overall investment cannot grow. MXGP stands at a crucial crossroads: remain a beautiful, isolated niche sport, or finally tear down the walls and open up to the world.

What do you think? Is MXGP truly too closed off, or do you prefer it just the way it is? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
