On August 22, 2015, a former military aircraft crashed during a display at the Shoreham Airshow at Shoreham Airport, England, killing 11 people and injuring 16 others.

The pilot, 51 year old Andy Hill, was flying a Hawker Hunter T7 which had been first flown by the Royal Air Force in 1955. He was attempting a complete loop manoeuvre in the aircraft before crashing into multiple vehicles on the motorway. He survived by ejecting from his plane before impact. He was described by colleagues as experienced, with more than 12,000 flight hours.

The manoeuvre started from a height of 200 feet which leading aviation expert David Learmount stated "This height left no room for misjudgement. The loop should have been started at a height of 500 feet”

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch concluded that the crash was a result of pilot error. In 2018, Andy Hill was charged with eleven counts of manslaughter. He was found not guilty on all counts on March 8, 2019.

Following the crash, restrictions were put in place on civilian vintage jet aircraft displays over land, limiting them to flypasts and banning high-energy aerobatic manoeuvres.

The victims include Matthew Grimstone, Graham Mallinson, Tony Brightwell, Mark Reeves, Matt Jones, Maurice Abrahams, Richard Smith, Jacob Schilt, Daniele Polito, Mark Trussler, Dylan Archer

Matthew Grimstone and Jacob Schilt were two soccer players in their early 20’s who played for Worthing United FC. They were heading to an away match together against Loxwood. The game was canceled following the news of their deaths.

Maurice Abrahams was a 76-year-old wedding chauffeur driving a Daimler Limousine while headed to collect a bride. His family stated "Maurice was a well-respected and loved father and husband. He enjoyed his work chauffeuring his beloved Daimler car and he enjoyed gardening”

Mark Reeves was a 53-year-old design technician from west London. He spent much of his free time raising money for cancer charities by parachuting. His family said in a statement: "Mark Reeves - motorbiker, golfer, photographer, fund-raiser - but above all else, son, brother, husband, father and grandfather.

Graham Mallinson was a 72 year old retired engineer and photographer and was described as being "the kindest and most generous man, who regularly gave his time to help others".

Tony Brightwell was a 53-year-old health manager. He was an aircraft enthusiast who learned to fly at the airport and regularly visited the airfield.

Matt Jones and Daniele Polito were young construction workers leaving the job site in Shoreham when the plane struck their BMW.

Dylan Archer was a 42 year old IT company director and avid cyclist. He was on his way to meet friends with 26 year old cyclist and web developer Richard Smith when they were both struck and killed by the aircraft. He left behind his love, Alice, and their two sons.

Mark Trussler was a 54-year-old father-of-six, who worked as a window cleaner and builder, was buried in two separate funeral services after police identified more of his remains two months after the first memorial.

In August of 2015, restrictions on vintage jets performing over land at airshows were put in place, reducing displays to flypasts only.

A series of sculptures were erected in 2019 as a memorial to the victims of the accident.
