In today's video, we will be going over a request related to getting pumping drums on your tracks. When I think of pumping, I think of dynamic changes that occur fast. To achieve this, we talk a bit about velocity programming, panning, delayed claps, and the most important of all bus compression. With velocity, we can get our closed hats to have more of a pumping vibe by creating dynamics to the sound instead of having a constant output. Panning can help drums have higher perceived loudness, which can increase the feeling of "pump." Delaying claps by a few MS can help get the clap out of the way of the kick to give it space to feel it hit harder! Finally, compression can shape dynamics to create a more pump feel in your drums by utilizing a short attack and fast release.
