Ghatasthapana | Maa Shailaputri | Dashain
On Day 1 of Dashain, called Ghatasthapana, the goddess Durga is worshipped, with the first manifestation, Goddess Shailaputri, being specifically venerated. During this ritual, a sacred pot (kalasha) is placed in the house, symbolizing the divine abode of Goddess Durga, and maize and barley seeds are sown in it to grow into sacred Jamara for the festivities.
