A large chunk of a Georgia small town could be yours. Here’s how

With a population of just over 200, a significant portion of Montrose is about to change hands.

13 parcels of land and buildings, ranging from vacant lots to residential homes and commercial warehouses, are set to be auctioned on Wednesday, allowing bidders to own multiple pieces of this Laurens County town.

The properties all belong to Trey Cottle, a local business owner known for running the Haunted Montrose attraction. While that business is not part of the sale, the rest of Cottle’s holdings in the town are up for grabs.

Brent Stephens, associate broker auctioneer at South Auction, said the parcels vary widely in size and use.

“We have 13 parcels here in Montrose. They range from small lots of half an acre to an 11,000-square-foot warehouse that we're in now, to a 1,500-square-foot four-bedroom home,” Stephens said.

Stephens said the warehouse that served as the hub of Cottle’s live auctions for years and remains a key highlight of the upcoming sale, adding to the facility’s value for potential buyers.

“This is a great facility for somebody that wants storage, dry storage, or warehouse offices, just three miles from I-16. It’s definitely one of the showpieces of the auction," he said. “We’ve had a lot of local interest, neighbors stopping by, but the beauty of an auction is that you might have somebody from out of state or across the country."
