Getting right into the build quality the redesigned HP Omen definitely captures attention with it’s discreet build quality. I must say it is refreshing to see this lo-key design on a classic gaming laptop. This look is far superior for the creative profession that wants to be taken seriously in client meetings.

The Asus TUF A15 comes with a military aesthetic boasting an aluminum top cover while the rest of the build comes in a hardened plastic material. The beveled edges, corners, Keyboard deck, and top cover are sturdy. I especially like the bolts on the top cover, it is a nice look that really emphasizes the TUF military look that Asus is going for with this laptop.

The HP Omen and the Asus TUF A15 are well-built. They have strong hinges that open and close smoothly with minimal screen flex. The HP Omen lends to less screen flex due to the hinge position within the screen rather than on the outer edge.

HP Omen 15
x2 USB-A 3.2 Gen 1
USB 3.2 Gen 2 (power-off charging)
USB-C 3.1 (DisplayPort + Charging)
HDMI 2.0
Mini Display 1.4
SD Card Reader
Network Port
Mic/headphone combo

Asus TUF A15:
1 x USB 2.0
1 x Type C USB
2 x Type A USB 3.2
1 x HDMI
1 x Headphone-out & Audio-in Combo
1x Ethernet Port

So as far as creators are concerned, with that SD card slot on the HP Omen it is going to be the better pick for creators on the go.

Onto a more heated conversation, pun intended. The vents on the A15 have received a lot of negative press due to the fact that they are considered to be improperly placed as well as some completely blocked off. This has caused the A15 to run hot. This has not been seen to dramatically affect the performance but does make the machine quite uncomfortable to hold.

The HP Omen however is well vented with a large vent on the bottom cover, vents on the keyboard deck and along with the back panel, as well as the right side panel. These vents allow the HP Omen to get plenty of airflow making it a much cooler laptop compared to many I have reviewed, but especially the TUF A15.

Each laptop totes a FHD matte display with a refresh rate of 144Hz with the HP Omen reaching 200 nits at full brightness and the Asus TUF A15 reaching 275 nits at full brightness.

Regarding the color accuracy, the HP Omen can reach a color gamut range of 64% sRGB and 49% Adobe RGB and the Asus TUF A15 can reach a color gamut range of 66% sRGB and 49% Adobe RGB

If you are someone that likes to be on the go then weight and battery life are important to you, take note:

If you’re looking for a laptop with a military aesthetic and Ryzen 7 CPU, great performance in regards to graphic design, photo & video editing, motion design, plus some of the best Geekbench scores I’ve ever seen, oh and it has a really solid keyboard and trackpad setup, then you’re going to want to check out the Asus TUF A15.

But if you’re looking for a laptop that runs that same Ryzen processor, but substantially cooler during all tests while accomplishing the tests at near the same results, and in addition you will have one of the best keyboard / trackpad setups that I have ever personally experienced on a gaming laptop then you need to pick up the newly redesigned HP Omen 15.
