Samuel Langhorne Clemens, known as Mark Twain, was an American author and one of the world's greatest humorist.

In rich and extensive life work, he achieved a high degree of feelings and thoughts, which ranged from the full joy of life to complete hopelessness. After an early childhood spent in Hannibal, Missouri, Twain worked as a typesetter and printer, was a riverboat pilot on the Mississippi River and miner in California, and after that traveled around Europe and the Middle East.
