Part 2: In Search of The Big Tree (Taksin Maharat National Park - Mae Sot, Thailand)
With my scooter, I can now visit places that are farther outside of Mae Sot. And one such place that I've had my eye on for a while is Taksin Maharat National Park. Among other attractions, it is supposed to contain what could be the largest tree in Thailand.
I wasn't quite sure what visiting this national park involved or what I should plan for. I did as much research as I could, but I was still left a bit unsure about the possibilities for staying overnight or even for two nights. My landlady at the guest house offered to lend me a tent so that I could camp there, but I wasn't sure if camping was a realistic possibility for me. There also seemed to be lodges available in the park. But I wasn't sure if this was possible or reasonable for me either.
In the end, I planned for both a day trip and an overnight stay. I packed as if I was staying in a lodge or nearby hotel for 1 or 2 nights. But I was open to the idea of just driving to the park and then driving pack to Mae Sot at the end of the day.
There was also a bit of uncertainty about how the recent lockdown rules and travel restrictions would affect a short trip like this. What kind of checkpoints might I encounter along the highway? I had no way to know for sure. I'd just have to see how the day unfolded.
I divided the video of this experience into two parts:
Part 1: I drive my scooter from Mae Sot to the park.
Part 2: I go looking for the famous big tree inside the park.
I hope you enjoy the videos.
