HashiCorp APT Repository Error on Kali Linux No Release File – 2026

If you’re using Kali Linux and you encounter this error:

“The repository https://apt.releases.hashicorp.com
kali-rolling Release does not have a Release file”

This happens because HashiCorp does not support kali-rolling. In this video, I show you the correct and safe way to fix the issue by mapping Kali to a supported Debian repository.

🔹 Step 1: Remove the broken HashiCorp repository
sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/hashicorp.list

🔹 Step 2: Add HashiCorp GPG key and supported Debian repo (Bookworm)
curl -fsSL https://apt.releases.hashicorp.com/gpg | sudo gpg --dearmor -o /usr/share/keyrings/hashicorp-archive-keyring.gpg

echo "deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/hashicorp-archive-keyring.gpg] https://apt.releases.hashicorp.com bookworm main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/hashicorp.list

🔹 Step 3: Update package list
sudo apt update

✅ After this, HashiCorp tools like Terraform, Vault, and Packer will install without errors on Kali Linux.
