Zhoupei village Hung Kuen

Zhoupei Hong Quan
The town of Zhoupei is located in southern Guangxi province's Yulin prefecture.
According to local tradition this style of Hong Quan has been practiced in Zhoupei since the reign of Qing emperor Qianlong (1735-1796).
At this time a wandering monk was seen camping near the temple located just outside of Zhoupei's northern gate.
The monk had decided to camp there for the night and had started a fire to cook his dinner when a local child crept into the bushes behind him and began to throw large rocks at the back of his head. The monk effortlessly knocked the rocks from the air using the stick he had been tending the fire with.
One of the village men happened to witness this and immediately apprehended and beat the child before sending him home. Apologizing profusely he invited the monk to come have dinner with his family and to stay at his house as long as he wanted.
The next day he approached the monk saying that he must be very skilled in martial arts to be able to fend off rocks thrown from behind him so easily with a small stick.
The monk said his name was Liu Zuzhang and that he had been a monk in the Southern Shaolin temple in Fujian.
Word traveled quickly around the village and soon the whole village came to ask the monk to stay and teach them martial arts to help protect the village.
At that time Guangxi was one of the poorest provinces known for it's corrupt officials and many bandits and rebellions. Because of this even a town like Zhoupei had to have a large wall manned with guards for protection.
The monk agreed to stay at the village and taught the people of Zhoupei his system of Southern Shaolin Hung family boxing and weapons.
Since that time it was custom for all the people of the town. male and female, to study martial arts in order to protect themselves in times of need.
This system uses the Xiao Nian form* as it's foundational set, as well as having forms for the five animals of southern Hung Kuen.
Additionally there is also an Iron wire set in the system which according to local tradition was also passed down from monk Liu Zuzhang. Aside from these there are a large number of other hand forms practiced in the Zhoupei Hong Quan system as well as many forms using a wide range of traditional weapons
*(in Zhoupei it is written using the characters for Little/Small and Twirl, or more specifically to twirl something in the fingers. Other styles in eastern Guangxi, the western half and extreme eastern border of Guangdong, and southern Fujian also have Xiao Nian, Nian Tao, Xiao Lian, Lian Tao sets as the foundation of their systems sometimes using the same characters other times using the characters meaning Little/Small and Idea/Study, linking,etc..)
