500 Million Users Couldn't Save Google+

How did Google build a social network to kill Facebook — and then bury it? This is the full rise and fall of Google Plus.

In 2011, Google launched Google Plus with one mission: destroy Facebook. It forced the network onto billions of users, tied it to YouTube and every Google account, and for a moment the growth looked unstoppable. But behind the numbers it was a ghost town — and a security flaw the company quietly hid would finish it off. By April 2019, Google Plus was dead.

Chapter three of Killed by Google. This is how the most-forced social network in history became one of Google's most expensive failures.
