3 IPS Officers Who Mishandled RG Kar Case — Suvendu Adhikari Finally Holds Them Accountable

For nearly two years, three of Bengal's most senior IPS officers faced zero accountability for their handling of the RG Kar rape and murder case — one of the most horrifying crimes in recent Indian history.
That changed on May 15, 2026.
Newly elected West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari suspended three top IPS officers — former Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, DCP Central Indira Mukherjee, and DCP North Abhishek Gupta — for alleged mishandling of the RG Kar case. The allegations are serious — procedural lapses, attempts to bribe the victim's family into silence, and wilful cover-up of evidence.
Adhikari has made it clear — phone calls, WhatsApp chats, and official communications of every officer linked to the case will be examined. And if the evidence points upward — to a minister or even the former Chief Minister — that too will be investigated.
The uniform was never meant to be a shield. Bengal's new government just proved it.
