Keys to Relational Frame Theory

Welcome back to ACT on Mental Health! I'm Shaun Hardie, a licensed mental health counselor based in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This video is the second in our series on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy: 100 Key Points and Techniques. In our last video, we explored the Key Behavioral Principles of ACT (Keys 1–10).

In this video, we take a deep dive into Keys 11–20, focusing on Relational Frame Theory (RFT)—the behavioral science behind how language shapes our emotions, learning, and suffering. You’ll learn how symbolic language creates relational networks, why the mind clings to coherence, how cognitive fusion and rule-following develop, and how ACT offers a pathway toward psychological flexibility and freedom.
