Cormorant Fishing (Ukai) & Bamboo Grove in Arashiyama, Kyoto! Japan Summer 2017

Hi everyone! Today's vlog is quite something. This summer in Japan we visited Arashiyama, close to Kyoto, to watch the cormorant fishing on the River Katsu. The fisherpeople use cormorant birds to dive underneath the river surface to catch fish. They do this in the evening, allowing the birds to follow a rhythm of a pole tapping on a boat and following a flaming lantern. This was amazing, although a little concerning regarding the birds comfort. Let me know your thoughts about this practice. Thanks so much for watching,

Natasha
