One of the most important things to remember when lifting a quadriplegic child is that they can't help you. Normally, when you lift someone, they will help with the transfer of weight, and even put an arm or two around you, using their muscles to assist you in carrying them. But quadriplegic children can't do that.

Therefore, it's important to make sure you FULLY support their weight. It's very easy to lose balance as you pick them up. If they even slightly roll a certain way as you lift them, it would be difficult to keep from dropping them.

Finally, don't forget about their comfort. Remember that you're not lifting a piece of furniture, but a person. So I don't like to let Raelynn's head flop forward or backward. I try to support her neck so that she's comfortable throughout the process.

Finally, at the end of the video, we go for a little walk. :)
