TIPS FOR FLYING WITH A TODDLER | Easy Travel Ideas for Toddlers
TIPS FOR FLYING WITH A ONE YEAR OLD | In this video, I want to share my tips for flying with a toddler. (specifically, how to fly with a one year old ---when you are traveling with a lap child.) This applies to flying with a toddler solo as well.

Our favorite airline to fly on with my toddler is Southwest Airlines. Southwest has an open seating arrangement which makes flying so much easier because you are more likely to have a free extra open seat next to you for your toddler. Also, Southwest offers flexible flights by not charging a change fee if you need to reschedule your flight, which is perfect for families.
If your child is under 2, you don't need to purchase the child a boarding pass, but you do need to call the airline before your flight to reserve a lap child pass.
Once you arrive at the airport, go to the airline's welcome desk. If you are flying Southwest, you are able to bring one carry on bag and one smaller item, like a purse or diaper bag, per person. You can also check two bags that need to be under 50 pounds each. Any baby items such as a carseat or stroller are checked for free on Southwest and most other airlines.
*****If your child is under two years old, most airlines require to see a copy of the child's birth certificate. You don't need the original document, just a copy of it works great.
For Southwest flights, you can check in your flight on Southwest's website or app 24 hours in advance and then you board your flight according to your group letter. (either A, B, or C) It is then open seating, which means first come, first serve. Family boarding is between the A and B boarding group.
The first thing I do when I get to my seat after I put my bags down is wipe down the tray tables with a sanitizing wipe. I'm always amazed with how nasty the wipe is after cleaning off the tray.
Some items I always bring on flights include:
1) NEW TOYS and books. I always try to get my toddler new toys to play with on flights.
2) SNACKS and toddler's own water. I love The 1st Years spill proof snack container and spill proof cups.
3) A familiar blanket and pacifier for nap time
4) A change of clothes for your toddler. (toddlers are SO messy!) This way you can change their clothes if needed before you get off the flight....for long flights, I also often bring an extra pair of clothes for me in case my toddler gets my clothes dirty.
5) DON'T be afraid to ask for help from passengers or flight attendants.
I hope this helps you as you are preparing a flight with your toddler or kids. Leave me a comment below if you have any questions or additional tips you would add to this list.
